Marlborough Crescent Party 2014

Marlborough Crescent Party 2014

The Biggest and Best Yet!

Marlborough Crescent held its third street party on Saturday 20th September. With 150 tickets sold it was the best attended yet. The event first started in 2012 as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and looks set to become a permanent fixture for the residents of Marlborough Crescent and the adjacent streets.

The party organisers were given a big boost in May when Ealing Council decided to abolish its hefty booking fee of over £300 for road closure, bringing it into line with Hounslow borough. “This new ruling has made planning a street party in the Ealing part of Bedford Park so much cheaper and simpler,” says Ruth Clarke, one of the organizing committee.

On the day, the cloudy skies may have caused some concerns about the weather.  But the afternoon proved to be anything but dull. The bunting, decorated tables and music from the Caribe All-stars Steel Band brought a festive atmosphere to the Crescent, as did the generous Pimms welcome drinks! Iain, Nigel and Doug slaved over the hot coals, grilling hamburgers, sausages and kebabs supplied by Mackens. Enormous platters of salads, puddings and desserts suddenly started appearing from doorways. There was plenty for the children to do; a bouncy castle, games, face painting, loom bands and cake decorating kept them happy and occupied. Mr. Whippy paid a visit later in the afternoon.

Some visitors from outside the area were particularly impressed. “It’s amazing to think that here in the heart of London you can close off the road and have this wonderful feeling of freedom and communal fun. There can’t be a better way to meet the neighbours!”
